The Latest (Unstable)
release, also known as "canary", is the cutting edge latest available build of FiveM.
Because it is unproven, it can become very unstable, and will sometimes crash. This is the price to pay for having the very latest release.
If someone sent you this link, it is because they think a problem you are having may be caused by the latest unstable build, and are suggesting you switch to the Release
build instead.
How do I switch to Release?
- Start FiveM, let it load to the main menu.
- Press the cog in the top right.
- In Settings, select Game.
- A the very top, set "Update channel" to "Release".
- Press the X in the top right, to go back to the main menu.
- Press the X in the top right again, to exit FiveM.
- Start FiveM again.
- Wait for it to complete changing to the Release build.
But my FiveM doesn't even start! I can't get to Settings!
Assuming you have FiveM deployed in the default location...
- Press Win+R, enter
%localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app\CitizenFX.ini
into the Open field, and click OK. - This will open a text file in Notepad.
- Remove the
UpdateChannel=
line. - Save and close the file.
- Start FiveM again.
Since the Release
is the default update channel, it will now change to that build.
I don't have an UpdateChannel line at all!
Congratulations, you are already on the Release build, and the problem was not caused by being on the canary release channel.
